Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a non invasive treatment which can treat a range of illnesses. This treatment works and we have a track record of that – but how often should you do hyperbaric oxygen therapy to reap the full benefits?
HBOT treatments should be done in a series of sessions on a daily basis to ensure that you reap the full benefits of the treatment, and the amount of sessions should be decided by a professional based on the illness or condition that you are looking to treat with hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
At the Oxygen Centre we explore this commonly asked question about how often should you do hyperbaric oxygen therapy, along with our recommendations to help you get the most out of your therapy for your health and wellbeing.
How Often Should You Do Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
How Long Are The Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Sessions?
Whilst we offer an initial 1 hour taster session, each of the Hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions last for a full 2 hours.
You’ll be surprised how quickly the time passes, many find it so relaxing that they fall asleep, listen to a podcast or you can bring a book into the chamber to read with you.
These sessions are not quick fixes you can take on your lunch break, the full 2 hour session is required to get the maximum benefits from the pressurised oxygen.
So, how many oxygen therapy sessions do you need?
It is totally dependent on the illness or condition that you are trying to treat, however many people feel improvements after just one or two sessions in the chamber.
At the Oxygen Centre we always recommend a minimum of five sessions taken daily, and this sees the best results.
Letting a large amount of time to pass between each session is not something we would recommend as it won’t allow you to feel the full effects of the therapy.
When you come in for your first session, we will take this time to understand what condition you are trying to treat and we will be able to advise on the amount of sessions required to successfully treat the condition. In some cases we may recommend 10, 20 or more sessions. Please take a look at our HBOT pricing for more information.
What Does It Feel Like Inside The Chamber?
When you’re comfortably within the chamber, the feeling is exactly like lying down on a bed. It’s comfortable, spacious and a relaxing place to be.
Whilst an MRI machine may feel like a similar structure, they are entirely different. There’s plenty of room within the chamber to turn over and raise your head so you won’t feel enclosed or claustrophobic.
During the session you can relax, fall asleep, listen to a podcast or even read. Customers often say that it’s like being on a plane as it’s a similar sensation.
How Should I Prepare For Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
No major preparations are required for a session of HBOT, however, you should not smoke or drink alcohol or carbonated beverages before the treatment and we recommend wearing casual, loose clothing so you are comfortable when lying down.
When inside the chamber ensure you follow the instructions for yawning and swallowing, we will be available on an intercom at all times should you need anything from us or any assistance during the treatment.
